Infographic: Small Business Owner vs. Entrepreneur: Is There a Difference?

Is there a difference between the terms “small business owner” and “entrepreneur”? Many owners of small businesses seem to think so, according to a recent survey conducted by The Hartford. While both have been used interchangeably, owners of small businesses have real preferences about what to call themselves.

The survey found that 51% of respondents prefer the term “small business owner” and just 18 percent prefer “Entrepreneur.”  Interestingly, more Millennials identify as entrepreneurs compared with older business owners.

Regardless of what terms the owners prefer, they had one thing in common – they are passionate about running a small business. Forty-eight percent of respondents said they opened their business to pursue their passion and 56% describe themselves as doing something they are passionate about or enjoy.
