The Internet has become commonplace for most people within their daily lives. Most of the time when people hear the word “Internet”, it is likely that they think primarily of their computers, tablets or 4G/LTE. However, one of the biggest technological revolutions is happening before our very eyes and it’s known as the Internet of Things (IoT). This concept goes way beyond just computers, and it is poised to change every aspect of our daily lives.
Today, the devices that are being used for IoT are primarily focused on consumer products such as watches, cars and even refrigerators. However, there has been a recent shift in the application of IoT. A recent engineering management report found that many cities and states are launching IoT initiatives to improve their infrastructure, energy usage and resident happiness. Along with many local governments, industries and organizations are already starting to develop a business growth strategy to increase their profitability and spread brand awareness. Cisco estimates that IoT will give them an estimated $19 trillion in global opportunity over the next 10 years.
