Does your business appeal to a more alternative, “hipster” crowd? New data from Infogroup may help you find the best city to open up shop.
In a new study, data provider Infogroup set out to find the nation’s most “hip” cities. To do so, it identified which metro areas with populations of one million or more were home to the most “hipster” businesses per 10K residents. These included microbreweries, record stores, thrift shops, tattoo parlors, live entertainment venues, bicycle dealers and non-chain coffee shops.
As it turns out, these businesses thrive in the following cities:
- Seattle
- Portland, Ore.
- Denver
- Sacramento, Calif.
- Grand Rapids, Mich.
- San Diego
- Providence, R.I.
- Pittsburgh
- San Francisco
- Rochester, N.Y.
These cities present significant opportunities for growth for more alternative, local businesses. If one type of “hipster” business is successful, another one can be, too.
