3 Easy Ways to Make Money Online as a Writer

Despite the world being more connected than ever (or perhaps because of that), it feels like it’s nearly impossible to find a decent job. People with college degrees are being turned away because of how many workers are looking for employment, though the digital world thankfully provides new opportunities every day.

If you’re willing to work over the internet, then people with all kinds of skill sets are being searched for by potential employers, and writers are no exception. Today, we’ll discuss three ways that writers can make a career of their craft while working on the internet.

The first choice is to be an independent freelancer, the second is joining a writing firm, and the last is to publish ebooks as an author, but let’s take a deeper look at what each of them entails.

    Freelancing

This is how most people get started writing online, and there are plenty of resources available for people that want to write for clients over the internet. Keep in mind that freelancers are often looked at with suspicion before they’ve proven themselves or at least offered some meaningful examples of their work.

If you want to make it as a freelancer, you'll need to create some samples of the kind of content that you want to create, and you'll want to make sure that they are perfect. Keep in mind that examples will set the bar for what your client expects, so don't pore over them for a week so that you can perfect them if you aren't able to do that for every piece.

    Join a Firm

This is often the second step in a freelancer’s journey. When you want to receive work more regularly and perhaps get paid more than if you’re independent, then joining a writing firm is often a smart move. Keep in mind that these businesses are often harshly competitive environments, so you’ll need to be experienced or skilled.

Keep in mind that some firms will treat their writers like full-time employees, so you shouldn’t expect to have as much free time as an independent worker. Firms can be employed for nearly any kind of writing job on the internet, ranging from creating home pages for sites to writing newsletter templates for email.

    Become an Ebook Author

Finally, if your writing talents are more focused on writing complete works like novels or even novellas, then you can try getting an ebook published. Keep in mind that there are many ways that you can approach the publishing situation, and it depends on whether you’re comfortable doing it yourself.

While you’ll see the lion’s share of the profits when self-publishing, you’ll also be limited to your own resources. If you opt for a publisher, you’ll have much greater potential reach.

    Conclusion

Being able to write well is a surprisingly rare skill, and writers can make a lot of money on the internet if they're also willing to dip into the field of business. Whether you're an aspiring writer or just curious, we hope that we've been able to help.
