The internet is ripe with opportunity. Never has there been a time on this planet where we’ve enjoyed this much freedom, abundance and opportunity for success.

Over the course of twenty years, the internet has completely transformed the world around us. It has revolutionized how we communicate forever, giving us the ability to reach people half-way round the planet at the touch of a button.

We have the ability to impact millions of people around the world because of the immense reach the internet has.

A lot of us don’t realize how powerful the internet really is until we take a step back and look at how much it has changed our world.

Take today as an example, I paid for my lunch with a phone app?! We have apps that can control our cars, our lights and heating at home. The internet has changed the way work and entertain ourselves. How we travel and learn things. How we do research and job search. Think about things like online dating, booking holidays, online courses, blogging, catch-up TV, funny cat videos, social media and e-commerce. All things that didn’t exist before the internet! I mean, what would we do without those funny cat videos on Youtube?! I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.

Fun fact of the day:

A basic smartphone is at least ten times more powerful than a personal computer that was available twenty years ago and costs just a tenth of the price!

I don’t know about you but that blows my mind just a little bit.

The bottom line is that the internet is the most valuable commodity on this planet.

The target market for millions of businesses worldwide has exponentially risen, thanks to the world wide web.

Why building an online business is so accessible in 2016:

Over the last ten years or so the tools and technology available with regards to the internet has exploded. We now have some incredible tools at our fingertips. Things that required the hiring of a professional five years ago can now be done by pressing a few buttons and having a little creativity.

Websites, plugins, professional videos, infographics, banners, ebooks, analytics and tracking and lead-capture pages are all things that can be created and utilized by someone with basic computer skills. This may come as a surprise to some of you but all it takes is a willingness to learn some basic techniques. We no longer have the technical barriers that existed a few years ago.

Here is a break down of some of the technologies that are now within reach of pretty much everyone:

Websites:

Ten years ago you had to hire a professional web designer to build you a website using HTML code. Now you can build a stunning, fully-featured website by pressing a few buttons on one of the various content management platforms available. You can have a complex e-commerce site setup in minutes.

It literally is as simple as point and click. Being a “techie” is no longer a per-requisite for building your very own website from scratch.

Autoresponders:

For those of you that don’t know, an autoresponder is a piece of software that automatically sends out emails on your behalf. We have the luxury of many autoresponders to choose from that only cost a few pounds a month.

These autoresponders allow you to setup an email series for anyone that signs up to your list so you don’t have to individually email everyone (which would be insane) that signs up to whatever you have to offer.

Autoresponders provide the beauty of automation. You could be sunbathing on a beach somewhere while people are checking your site, signing up to your email list and receiving value-packed emails that you have previously setup, without you having to worry about a thing!

The key point here is that once you set the system up properly one time you don’t really need to touch it again. It does all the work for you. Of course you may want to make little changes and send out broadcasts to your email list now and again but overall you don’t need to do much.

Lead-capture pages:

For those of you that are scratching your heads right now, a lead-capture page is this…

It is a webpage you land on when someone wants you to sign up to their list, usually offering something of value in exchange for your name and email address.

Lead-capture pages are great because:

They allow you to promote what you have to offer in a professional, informative and attractive way.

They collect contact information which enables you to follow-up with your prospect. The follow-up gives you the ability to establish a relationship with your prospect. People buy from people they know, like and trust.

They sort out the genuinely interested people from the tire-kickers. You know someone is at least intrigued by what you have to offer if they sign up to your list.

They allow you to measure and track user engagement. Typically you can check how many views and clicks you’ve had on your page among other more detailed analytics.

Anyone can create stunning, high-converting lead-capture pages in minutes through various online tools available.

In most cases you’re presented with a bunch of templates to choose from and all you have to do is fill in the boxes. Again it’s a point and click thing. You can connect these pages to your auto-responder quite easily and even host them on your website by utilising plugins.

Outsourcing:

If there is something you really don’t want to do are just plain struggling to get your head around; Someone else is willing to do it for pennies on the pound. There are plenty of websites out there where freelancers advertise their services. Freelancers offer a huge range of services from content writing to link building and social media marketing.

The bottom line is that if there’s something you really can’t do, someone else can do it for you for cheap. There are literally no excuses!

Posters, Infographics, and banners:

This section basically covers anything illustrative that you can do online, whether it is an ebook cover, kindle cover, social media graphic, infographic, poster, Youtube thumbnail.. the list goes on.

There are tools out there that allow you to create these types of graphics very easily by providing you with all the images, text boxes, shapes and templates required for you to create stunning graphics by literally dragging and dropping items onto a template. Various websites provide an interface like this for pretty much any type of graphic you want to create for free! Who needs a graphic designer?!

Video advertising:

Most people are still under the impression that it is fairly expensive and time-consuming to get a professional video ad made from scratch. Assuming they would either have to hire a company to do it for them or pay for expensive equipment and video-editing software to do it themselves.

Veeroll is an online tool that allows you to create professional video ads within minutes by allowing you choose from a list of high-converting templates with the ability to customize text and images.

You can then create campaigns for Facebook or Youtube in just a few clicks, target your exact audience and have a campaign up and running within minutes. There are also various features for you to audit and optimise your campaigns for increased conversions and reduced costs.

Veeroll takes a complex, time-consuming process and makes it simple, streamlined and fast. creating videos, researching targeting groups and building video campaigns is now a breeze thanks to this awesome tool.

Affiliate Marketing:

Business models such as affiliate marketing allow people to monetize their blog without having to create and physically ship out products. Affiliates get paid a commission for referring customers to a particular product. The types of products range massively. You can literally promote every type of product in existence through this business model. Commission levels do vary though and some affiliate programs are a lot more lucrative than others.

To give you an example price comparison sites work on the business model of affiliate marketing. These types of sites are everywhere. We can compare hotels, flights, credit cards, bank accounts and every type of insurance in existence. All these companies make a commission if you buy anything through them… and they are absolutely rolling in the money.

Affiliate marketing is something that thousands if not millions of companies endorse and is an industry that is worth billions of dollars a year.

Affiliate marketing is an attractive business model because you don’t need huge startup capital to get started. Certain business systems require a small investment but many programs are free to join and start promoting products.

The bottom line is that the more you are willing to invest into your online business and your education the higher returns you will get, usually in a shorter space of time too.

To summarize:

Hopefully the last few paragraphs have given you an insight into the technology and tools that we now have at our disposal. Maybe I’ve even sparked your entrepreneurial spirit 😉

The internet is still ripe with opportunity and it is still in its infancy. Anyone with the right mindset can build a successful online business and become a self-reliant individual, if you’re willing to put in the work.

Making money on the internet isn’t rocket science. It requires taking action, perseverance, persistence and a high level of productivity. Again, mindset is very important as this will affect every aspect of your online venture.

The willingness to put yourself out there and fail forward is a must for success. Failure must be looked at as a stepping stone to success, not as something negative.
